About the Sessions
What can you expect?
Initial consultation
I offer an initial consultation which will last for an hour to an hour and a half. This meeting will give you a chance to tell me what brings you to therapy and for us to get a sense of whether we think we can work together. Sometimes a second meeting might be recommended. If I feel that Psychoanalytic psychotherapy isn’t the best fit for your needs I will suggest alternative treatment options.
Your sessions
Following an initial consultation, if we agree that it would be helpful for us to work together we would begin sessions. I see patients once, twice or three times per week depending on individual needs.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and would be at the same time and on the same day each week. This time would then be ‘your’ time and would be blocked out for you. As such, missed sessions are chargeable but if you are able to give advanced notice, I will do my best to re-schedule the session in the same week, but this may not always be possible. If I have to cancel a session you will not be charged. I will inform you in advance of any planned leave.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is generally open-ended, but I can offer short-term, focused psychotherapy where appropriate.
